The Superbowl of Motherhood

Today all of heaven is rejoicing with me.

My daughter came to me about an hour ago and said, "I just asked Jesus into my heart, Mommy!"

It just doesn't get any better than that!

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

May God continue to draw you to Him. May you enjoy the many wonderful blessings of a life lived for Him. You will never be sorry.

Eyes in the Back of Your Head in Use Today

Raise your hand if Noggin has served as babysitter for you ever?

Yes.  Yes.  I see that hand.

Very good.  I, too, have used Noggin from time to time to keep my kiddos occupied while I take a shower or get the laundry switched out.

One of the shows my babes like is Franklin.  It's cute in a talking turtle sort of way.  So the other week Noggin ran Franklin and the Turtle Lake Treasure, a feature length movie.  Natalie (my 5yo) started watching it but because of something we had to turn it off.  I set the DVR to record it for her and only just got around to letting her watch it this morning.

It started off cute enough, but about half way through the story turned to searching for a talisman (the treasure) that they needed to find so that it could be given to Franklin's granny for her healing.

Yep.  For her healing.  A talisman.

Now, I don't know your belief system and I respect that we may not agree on everything, BUT this LazyMom site and all the authors here are Bible thumping believers in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

So that being said, I had a problem with my 5yo watching this Franklin movie that was teaching her to look to tailsmans and magic for physical healing.  I turned it off, deleted it from the List, and explained why this was not a show she would be watching.

Our healings, physical, spiritual, and emotional, all come from God above.

Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV)

4 Surely he took up our infirmities
       and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
       smitten by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
       he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

Matthew 8:16-17 (NIV)

16When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
   "He took up our infirmities
      and carried our diseases."

James 5:14-16 (NIV)

14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

As moms (and parents) we have been entrusted with these little ones.  We are responsible for protecting and teaching them.  Even if I use Noggin as a sitter from time to time, I have to be aware of what is on there.  It's amazing how things just sneak in here and there.  Our kids don't know the difference unless we tell them.  Be very careful about what your little ones are watching, reading, and exposed to.

Like the old song goes...

Be careful little eyes what you see,
Be careful little eyes what you see,
For the Father up above is looking down in love,
Be careful little eyes what you see.

So my girl is now watching an episode of WordWorld.  I have yet to find a problem with spelling, but I'll let you know if I find one in the future.

The Fourth Mom Purse Essential

So a long time ago, I promised that I would divulge all the things that I consider essentials to a "mom purse." You've already seen the first thing that I consider an essential, and after I took a little gander at all of the totally awesome [if I do say so myslef] lazy mom tips I've posted previously, you've also seen my second and third essential items, too!

So since I've taken SOOOOO long to make good on my promise, I thought I'd jump back in here and feature one of my mom purse essentials for the spring/summer time!

drum roll please...

The Black Wrap
I stumbled across this little number at Walmart several months ago and thought it was cute. I thought to myself, why not keep this rolled up in my mom purse this Spring/Summer for times when I get a little chilly? I mean, come on... I don't live in Texas anymore. I live in the North, where, for some ungodly reason, its still cold in the evenings even when it's the dead of Summer... where, in July you can't plan a pool party for your sons birthday because it will be TOO COLD for the kids to want to get in... where, when it hits 60 degrees, people act like it's 80.... do I need to continue?

So that's what I did. I bought it, rolled it up and put it in my mom purse. I know it's a profound story and we are all better people for knowing it now, aren't we? Plus, you can all now see my bitterness over the Summer temp in the North. Your welcome.

Soooo... I've been using it ever since. I pull it out almost daily and love it! Plus it doesn't get wrinkled really and it's got enough fabric that I can wrap a little darling up in it with me if I needed to! I also like it because when my daughter gets cold I can wrap her up like a mummy and I just think that's funny.

Tune in next week to see my fifth mom purse essential (it's another summer time essential and might, just might have something to do with being cold in the Summer time up North. I'm sure your hoping it is!)

Lazy Mom Tip #21

I just HAD to share with you fellow lazymoms my latest stroke of genius. Be prepared to be blown away here... seriously. It's goo-OOd.

As I'm sure most of you moms can attest to as well, my children are non-stop askers for snacks. Let me stress the words NON and STOP. Can I get a witness??

With three days of school left in the school year, I've been trying to think of some good ideas for ways to keep my kids busy this summer, but also keep MY sanity this summer! The first obstacle to my "summer sanity" that I knew I had to tackle was the non-stop-asking-for-snacks thing. I'm pleased to announce that I came up with a good one! And yes, I'm aware that I'm incredibly humble. It's something I have to live with daily.

BEHOLD.... Lazy Mom Tip #21....

The Snack Bin!

Now before you all start breaking out into applause and mailing me gift certificates for outrageous amounts of money to my favorite restaurants, let me tell you a little bit about my snack bin.

*Ahem*

You could obviously buy prepackaged items, but to save on money, LazyDad and I, bought large amounts of snacks from Sam's Club and Walmart and then filled snack size ziploc bags with it. My plan is to refill it once a week. It took about 30 minutes to fill this tub full of goodies.

On the side of the bin I have magnets of fresh fruits or veggies they can also choose as a snack. My bin is metal, so this works. If you choose a plastic bin, this won't work. [Just trying to make it plain. I know you would have NEVER figured that out on your own. Your welcome.] So for this week, I currently have apples and bananas on hand, so those are the two magnets I put on the bin. Got it? Good.

Another thing I want to point out... just because this is a snack bin, does NOT mean that my little darlings can just run and get something out of it whenever they want. They still have to ask me. Otherwise, the thing would be cleaned out in ONE. DAY. Plus, lots of times they want a snack right before dinner and I want them to wait until dinner to eat. So there.

Wondering what to fill your bin with? Here's what I have:
  • Cheeze-its
  • pretzels
  • raisins
  • popped popcorn
  • Gold Fish
  • granola bars
  • Animal Crackers
  • dry cereal

Feel free to leave a comment if you have any good snack ideas that you are going to put in your lazymom snack bin!

LONG LIVE THE LAZYMOM SNACK BIN!!!

INSTALLING A HUSBAND

Dear Tech Support ,

Last year I upgraded from
Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0 .

In addition,
Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as
*
Romance 9.5 and
*
Personal Attention 6.5,

and then installed undesirable programs
, such as

*
NBA 5.0,
*
NFL 3.0 and
*
Golf Clubs 4.1

Conversation 8.0
no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2. 6 simply crashes the system.

*
Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate.

DEAR DESPERATE ,

First, keep in mind,
*
Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while
*
Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command:
ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
*
If that application works as designed, Husband1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause
Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5 , Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1 .
*
Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do,
D0 NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to re
- install the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0 .

In summary,
Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend
*
Cooking 3.0 and
*
Hot Lingerie 7.7..

Good Luck!

Lazy Mom Tip #20!!!

Wow. We have reached a milestone my fellow Lazy Moms. We have hit a staggering 20 lazy mom tips!

Now I know what you might be thinking... "20 is a milestone?" and the answer is HECK YAH! At least it is when you are a lazy mom and took a good year and a half to get to it! So rejoice! Go out and hug someone, or better yet, go implement ALL 20 lazy mom tips immediately. Well, okay. Since we're lazy, just go implement one for crying out loud.

So anyway, on to the tip....

This tip actually came from my brother who is a definite Lazy Dad. One of the best Lazy Dad's I know, by the way. It must run in our blood.

I was at his house over Thanksgiving (geez, did it take me THAT long to post about this?) and as we were chatting in the laundry room he went to start a new load. To my surprise he filled the measuring cup to the first line and then threw the whole thing into the washing machine. I don't just mean the detergent, I mean the whole CUP went into the wash.

I think he noticed that I was wondering what he was doing because he proceeded to tell me the following.

"Haven't you ever noticed how you can NEVER get all the liquid soap out of the cup when you pour it into the washing machine?"

"Ye-es," I sputtered.

"Well I decided to fix that problem I would just start throwing the whole cup in the wash. Works great!"

"Wow... I never would have thought of that."

"Then I thought to myself, why not just throw it into the dryer too instead of hunting for it in the washing machine. So into the dryer it goes! When I'm pulling out the clothes to fold them I find the cup and do it all over again."

Not a bad idea, right? Right! As soon as I got home I implemented this great tip and it works beautifully! I usually don't have a problem finding the cup in the washing machine when the wash is finished, so I don't always throw it in the dryer, but my brother keeps several cups from previous laundry detergent on hand so he has a cup for each load that goes in and out!

Brilliant!

So there you have it.... lazy mom tip #20! Whoo-hoooooo!

Flubberize Your Kids

Here is a simple recipe for making your own flubber. You know what I'm talking about...that slimy stuff that kinda makes you want to gag every time you touch it...Yeah, that's the stuff. Now YOU CAN MAKE YOUR VERY OWN NASTY, SLIMY, GROSS FLUBBER!!! (Aren't you excited?!)

Embedded Recipe Image (Unsupported on IE 7 and earlier)
Flubber

(or Slime or whatever you want to call it)

Ingredients

  1. For each kit you need:
  2. 1 4 oz. bottle of white glue
  3. 1/2 teaspoon of Borax in a small envelope or container
  4. 2 plastic spoons
  5. plastic cup

Directions

  1. Take everything out of the container. Pour the glue into the bottom of the container. Fill the empty glue container with warm water, put the lid back on, and shake. Pour into the container with the glue and stir with a spoon to mix. Add food coloring if you wish.
  2. Pour the packet of Borax (1/2 teaspoon) into the plastic cup. Add 1/4 cup of warm water to the plastic cup and stir with the other spoon.
  3. 3. Slowly pour the Borax water into the glue mixture while stirring. A big glob will form. Keep stirring until you've added all the water and then knead the mixture with your hands. Discard and remaining water in the container. Dry out the container and use it to store your flubber.
Search, share, and cook your recipes on Mac OS X with SousChef!
This can also be a great gift. Put all the ingredients together in a container with a sample of some you've already made. You'll be the hit of the birthday party!:::LM2

We've got a fresh one!

LM2 and I are so excited!

Today we got an email from a wonderful friend who was on the fence about being a lazy mom. We are happy to announce that she has jumped the fence!

Here she is in her own words....

Just wanted to give you a quick update. Well...I can finally say I'm a Lazy Mom with conviction! It's been a process, but my boys not only help out around the house now, but they actually enjoy it (usually)! Thought you'd enjoy seeing a few recent pics of them cleaning...

*tear*

We are so proud!

We're soooooo lazy.

What happens when a bunch of lazy moms get together and start a blog? You don't have any posts for almost three months....

We're just too lazy to keep up with this apparently!

Sorry!

Lazy Mom Tip #19

For those of you who have children that are in school and yet still have some little darlings at home, you will KISS me for this next lazy mom tip! It is SOOOOO good and quite possibly the smartest thing I have ever. done. For real.

When my boys went off to school, my mom sent them lunch boxes. She didn't want my littlest little darling to miss out, so she also sent her a lunch box as well, even though she was going to be at home with me.

The first night we made lunches in the new lunch boxes for the boys, she whipped her lunch box out and asked for her lunch. For a second I was thinking about telling her, "We don't have to pack you a lunch, blah, blah, blah..." but then I had a stroke of brilliance! Light streamed in through the kitchen window! The veil was lifted! Birds started singing! Okay. I had a good idea.

Why not pack her a lunch, too! So I did! And let me tell you, it was SO awesome! The next day when she informed me she was hungry, I just told her to go to the refrigerator and pull her lunch out and have at it. It was wonderful! No, stopping what I'm doing. No getting my lazy butt up. No trying to figure out what on earth I was going to make her. None of that! It was already done. Brilliant!

So that's what we've been doing ever since. Every school night we pack all THREE of them a lunch. It's fantastic! You MUST try this at your house. When you do, you can totally thank me with gift cards or cash. I take either.

Do They Make Prozac For Babies?

Today was back-to-the-real-world day for us here at The BallRoom.  The Music Man went back to work and tomorrow The Girl will go back to school.  Things were going well here at The BallRoom until around lunchtime.  That's when my dear, sweet, mellow baby boy decided that life is rough.  I kid you not when I say that unless he was on my hip or boob he was crying-No. Screaming is a better description.  UGH!  I even tried putting him right. next. to. me. on the couch so I could fold laundry and he screamed.

I'm talking shots-at-the-doctor's-office screamed!!!
Peel-the-paint-off-the-walls screamed.
Give-Mommy-a-massive-headache screamed.
In-a-panic-call-The-Music-Man-and-beg-him-to-come-home-RIGHT. NOW. screamed.

He did this all. after. noon.  I kept trying to get things done.  You know, simple things, like fold laundry, make a dentist appointment, defrost meat for dinner, unload the dishwasher.  I couldn't do anything!

Nothing.
Nada.
Zilch.

By 330 I was scouring my kitchen for a VERY stiff drink and prescription meds.  It was all I could do not to run away.  All I found was some semi-flat Coke and regular strength Tylenol.

It was then that I gave up.
I can't do this.
I'm done.

Forget multi-tasking.
Forget clean undies for The Music Man.
Forget dinner.
Forget going to the bathroom.

And I sat on the couch with my boy.

Then I heard a whisper.

Sometimes that's all I want.
For you to just sit down and spend time with Me.
Just BE with me.

And in that moment, nothing else mattered to me.
Not the laundry.
Not dinner.
Not even going to the bathroom.
Just me, my son, and my Father.

"Be still and know that I am God."  Psalm 46:10

As moms it's easy for us to get lost in meeting everyone's needs that we forget our own needs.  It's always been my desire as a LazyMom to encourage other LazyMoms that it's ok to let the babies cry or tell the older ones to stay in their room.  If we don't take care of ourselves, we can't take care of anyone else.

Cute book!

Hello all you wonderful lazy moms out there! LM1 here.

I discovered a new book at the library today that I think your kids would really like and I just had to share it with you! It's called The Big, Bigger, BiggestBook!

The flaps in the book open to show you how things get bigger, or farther, or faster. It's great! I think my 7 year old finally understands how to use words to describe things that get bigger! Check your library to see there's a copy!

Lazy Mom Confessions

So okay, I'm reading a really great Lazy Mom book called The House That Cleans Itself: Creative Solutions for a Clean and Orderly House in Less Time Than You Can Imagine. I totally recommend it, but not just for the great ideas in it, strewn along the way are different peoples "most embarrassing messy house stories." I read one the other day that had me laughing-out-loud and it totally makes for a GREAT lazy mom confession (we haven't had one of those in quite a long time now). So here it is:

Early in my married life I struggled to keep up with three kids and all the housework. Some things had to go. Well, I knew I'd let it go too long when one of my children's friends looked at our bathtub in horror.
"Ewwww!" the six year old pixie exclaimed as she pointed at the dark ring around the inside of the tub. "My mommy would never let me take a bath in there."
"Oh," my daughter answered, "that's just so we know how far to fill the water."
I slunk away, and from that day on, we never had a ring around our tub again.

Hahaha! Isn't that hilarious?!

I would NEVER have a bathtub look like that.
Not ever.
Never.
Never ever.

Okay, who am I fooling... my bathtub looks like that right now.

*sigh*

Lazy Mom Desserts

Boy have I got some great dessert recipes for you!!! They were submitted by a dear friend who isn't a lazymom yet... for now she falls into the DINK category: Dual Income, No Kids. But she will most definitely be a lazymom someday!!

Here's what she had to say....

Both of these cakes are equally scrumptious! This is a recipe my mom makes all the time and it has become one of our favorites. It can be made into a 13 x 9 cake, a bundt cake, or cupcakes even. I always keep the ingredients in the house so if I need a quick dessert I can whip it up. It couldn’t be easier and to make things even better it’s very low in calories. It has no eggs or oil!!!

Orange Cake

1 French Vanilla Cake Mix
1 can of diet orange soda (any brand)
1 - 8 ounce tub of Cool Whip

Pour soda in bowl. Pour cake mix over soda (it will foam up a little bit). Mix well. Bake according to box instructions for temperature and time. Allow to cool completely. Frost with Cool Whip. Store in refrigerator.

Lemon Cake
1 Lemon Cake Mix
1 can of diet 7Up soda (diet Sierra Mist or diet Sprite work just fine)
1 - 8 ounce tub of Cool Whip

Pour soda in bowl. Pour cake mix over soda (it will foam up a little bit). Mix well. Bake according to box instructions for temperature and time. Allow to cool completely. Frost with Cool Whip. Store in refrigerator.

So go forth and make cake everyone! And report back how easy and wonderful it was!

LM1

We got another one!

I'm so excited! We've got ANOTHER great lazymom recipe for you lazy's out there!

Seeing as we only have like 3 readers, that means there should only be ONE more left to go! But that's beside the point. Let's get on to our great recipe submitted by lazymom Jessica. Here's what she had to say about it...

This is one of the moistest chicken breast ever....and my husbands favorite..........

Baked Ranch Chicken

4-5 skinless boneless chicken breasts
1/2 cup butter (melted)
1 pkg of hidden valley ranch dressing mix
1 Cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

mix bread crumbs, dressing mix and Parmesan cheese in bowl.....dip chicken in melted butter, and then bread crumb mix and place in 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 30-40 min depending on the size of your breasts...(hahaha) chicken breast I mean.....:)

Serve with anything you feel goes with chicken.....:)

YUMMY! Thanks Jessica! This is a recipe I used to make quite a bit and had gotten away from it. I'm totally reintroducing this to my dinner repertoire. Hahaha! Okay, that cracked me up. Like I have a repertoire of dinners... I'm a lazy mom, remember?

We got a fresh one!

Whoo-hoooooo! We got our first official recipe from the streets! And these streets are in Wisconsin land! Thank you to Amy for being our first ever recipe submitter thingy!! You've won a years supply worth of love from the Lazy Moms!!!! Now aren't you so glad you did that?

Amy's totally awesome crock pot recipe.....

2lbs beef tips
1 can creme of chicken soup
1 container sour creme
1 pkg of liptons onion soup

Put beef in crock pot.
In a separate bowl, mix soup, sour creme, and onion soup mix together.
Pour over beef.
Cook on low 6-8 hours

Serve over noodles.

Wow! Not only does her recipe meet all the lazymom requirements, it sounds AMAZING! So who will be the first one to try it? Huh, huh? Anyone? Come on! Be the first one to write a recipe review on this post and you'll win a great big hug from me!

In a Pinch Fiesta Corn!

Last night I needed to make dinner quick with not much on hand.... so I made some rice and then made up this recipe to go with it. It was SUPER yummy.

So let me see if I can remember the rules for a LM recipe:

1. Is it so easy a lazy mom can do it? YEP!

2. Does it have less than 5 ingredients? oops... I thought it was 5 ingredients or less...well, shoot... except for the spice it has less than 5 ingredients!.... guess I was too lazy to read the fine print!

3. Is it family friendly? well that also depends... my girl likes spicy... but hey, this is something you can do any way you want!

heat oil in a wok or frying pan. dice up some onion and bell pepper. throw it in and saute. Add a can of corn... and a can of kidney beans, rinsed.... then I used quite a bit of "McCormick's Spicy Season All" and some red pepper flakes for extra heat. You could season it with whatever your family likes, though. Heat through and serve (we liked it over rice with a salad as a main meal, but it would be a good side dish too)

That's it. It was soooooo yummy I couldn't stop eating it.

I'm finding we really like that "Spicy Season All" stuff a lot... hubby likes it on chicken so I do that a lot. That and lemon pepper. I have a great hubby for being a LM cook - he likes me to make the same thing over and over and OVER! if it has corn, potatoes and a salad with it... and chicken breasts he's happy! hahahahaha!

I wish I had some cool photos of the Fiesta Corn.... but I wasn't thinking about posting the recipe at the time I made it and well.... there weren't any leftovers! oops!

Smoothies Anyone?

We've had an overwhelming response to our awesome new "Cooking the Lazy Mom Way" idea. Okay, not really. In fact, we've had zero responses, but that's okay. I've cried over it and asked God, "why me?" and then I was fine. So no worries!

So to entice you to send in your lazy mom recipes, I've decided to throw another one of my personal favorites out there for you to see. And this one I've actually DONE before, so that's a plus. So first let's see if it meets all of our lazy mom requirements for being submitted:

1. Is it so easy a lazy mom can do it? You bet your sweet bippers it is!

2. Does it have less than five ingredients? Sure 'nough!

3. Is it family friendly? Well if this picture doesn't tell you it is then I might as well call it quits.

So off we go now!

First you get your blender out. Mine happens to be caked with lots of goo and grime (like any good lazy moms would be) so just keep your eyes a little further up, k?

Get you one nice looking banana and throw it into the blender like so.

[A quick side note about bananas. Usually I keep a bag of bananas in my freezer for this VERY recipe, but for some reason SOMEONE

*cough* Lazy Dad *cough*

must have thrown them away! So whenever you have some bananas that are starting to go bad, just throw them in a Ziploc bag and chunk them in the freezer. That way you have NO excuse not to make this recipe.]

Next, take you some 'Great Value' blueberries (ya, we aren't food racist around here. Any ol' brand will do) and pour 'em in....

till right... about... there. Stop!

Now take you some frozen raspberries and blackberries and pour them in, too. These are ones that I had frozen from when I bought fresh ones a while back, but there is a whole mixed berry frozen pack that you can buy at the grocery store. Those grocery stores, they make it convenient to spend money, don't they?

Next grab the fourth and final ingredient, orange juice, and fill 'er up to right about there....

(can you tell that this is a very precise recipe?)

Then if you are a TRUE lazy mom you won't be able to find the little thing ma'bob that goes with your lid, so you have a lid with a whole in it. [can I get a witness out there?]

So you will have to do exactly what I did...

Ya, do that. Hold it down tight while you mix away until it's smooth. [You may have to add more orange juice to keep loosening it up until it's smooth.]
Then go get you a glass and fill it up to the brim!

Or in my case, half full.

Because I have three of these to fill as well...

[Notice the crock pot in the background? See that the little light is lit up? That's because I'm making this even as we speak - Seeeee? I really do cook the lazy mom way in real life and not just on blogger.]

Next, you'll need to do like I did and run out to your car and get that random extra Wendy's straw that they gave you that one time 2 years ago, and use it to slurp up your totally awesome smoothies!
Hey! I can't keep straws in the house because as soon as I buy a package they are GONE. G- O- N- E- Gone, people.

So now you absolutely MUST stop what you are doing RIGHT NOW and email us your lazy mom recipes! You must, must, must!

And now I MUST stop what I'm doing and go put on deodorant because I just realized I forgot to do that earlier. Niiiiice.

Cooking the Lazy Mom Way

Hellooooo all you wonderful lazy moms out there! :) I am SOOOO excited to tell you about an awesome new thing we are going to be doing on our lazy, lazy site! You can tell that I'm sooooo excited because I keep spreading my ooooo's out.

COOKING THE LAZY MOM WAY!

Doesn't that sound exciting?!?! I don't know about you... but I just don't have time to cook like Pioneer Woman does. Or maybe it's just because I'm too lazy?... but whatever.

At any rate, this is how Cooking the Lazy Mom Way is going to work, so pay attention! Look sharp! Yoo-hooo *tap* *tap* *tap* I'm talking to YOU out there! Is this thing on?

So cooking the lazy mom way is going to be open for all of YOU lazy moms out there to participate in. Now don't go and get lazy on me! I expect FULL participation in this ladies. Do you hear me?

To kick us off, I'm going to share a recipe in a seperate post below this one that I just discovered and sounds delicious. What can I say, I'm a TRUE lazy mom. I have LOADS of recipes that I think sound amazing and I've never. even. cooked them. So feel free to share a recipe even if you happen to be like me in that area. It's okay. We won't judge you.

Before I explain how to submit a lazy mom recipe, I need to first go over the rules of what can actually be submitted.

Our first rule for submitting recipes to the lazy moms that run this lazy, lazy site:
1. It must be so simple that a lazy mom can do it. [Hehehehe... I love that. But don't ask me why. I just get a kick out of silly little things like that.]

Number 2!
2. It MUST, absolutely MUST be LESS than five ingredients. If it's more than five, I'm afraid it's a no go. [Unless it sounds really, really good and then we might just post it anyway. Hey. I'm coming up with these rules, I can break them, right?]

Number 3! [Are you still paying attention?]
It must be family friendly. [Duh. This is a no brainer. If we are lazy moms then we have lazy families we have to feed.]

So there you have it. That wasn't so hard was it? Very simple rules for very simple moms.

To submit your awesome, amazing, lazy recipes (which word there doesn't belong?) just email them to us at imalazymom@gmail.com. It's THAT simple.

Any questions?

Crockpot Sour Cream Salsa Chicken

This is so exciting! Our FIRST EVER lazy mom recipe is here!!! And as you can see, I followed ALL the rules!

1. So easy a lazy mom can do it? Check!
[This totally qualifies because I used a crockpot. Crockpot recipes automatically meet this requirement in my book.]

2. Less than five ingredients? Check!

3. A family friendly recipe? Check!

So here it it goes.....

Crockpot Sour Cream Salsa Chicken

  • 4 Skinless/Boneless chicken Breast halves
  • 1 pkg reduced sodium taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup Salsa
  • 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup light sour cream

Spray crockpot with cooking spray. Add the chicken breasts. Sprinkle with taco seasoning and salsa. cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. When ready remove the chicken from the pot. place about 2 tablespoons of corn starch in a small amount of water and stir well. Stir the cornstarch mixture in to the salsa sauce. Stir in the sour cream. Let the sauce warm up and serve when hot.

Enjoy!!!

Marshmallow Olympics

I just had to share with you all a great new post my brother just put on his blog. I think all the games they played are so fun, you simply MUST read about it!

And by the way... THESE are the marshmallow guns we are used to around these parts. Lazy Dad's children Pastor years are to thank for those babies.

If you host your own Marshmallow Olympics, come back and tell us about it!

Things I've Always Wanted To Do (Part 3)

....but will probably never do....

21. Water my plants before they begin to die from dehydration.
22. Keep my kitchen island clutter-free.
23. Get a new lampshade to replace the one I burned with the candle.

24. Buy new living room furniture.
25. Give myself weekly manicures and pedicures like I used to do when my husband and I were courting 7+ years ago.
26. Finish painting our basement
27. Clear off the top of my refrigerator and KEEP it that way.
28. See a new movie before it's out on DVD.
29. Powerwash the outside of our house (Wait. That's something lazy dad is supposed to do).
30. Organize our basement so we are all ready for the new school year.

Lazy Mom Tip #18

Oh my gosh, you guys... this could seriously be THE. BEST. LAZY. MOM. TIP. EVER!!!!

Recently my family and I took a 10 day vacation. The first day we had to be in the car for about 9 hours (not too bad considering that in the past we've done 20 hours straight). I had heard about a way to keep Little Darlings occupied in the car, but I was a little skeptical about it. We thought we'd give it a try though and boy howdy, did it ROCK!

As you'll see pictured below pipe cleaners are now my NEW favorite lazy mom travel item! I know it's shocking to think that pipe cleaners could keep a kid busy in the car. It's okay. I was a skeptic myself... until I tried it! Here is the proof that it works people....

My middle Little Darling particularly took a great liking to the pipe cleaners. He twisted them into all kinds of things... people, fish, tire swings, etc. He started arranging his creations all around him, including the above handles and the window area.

It seriously kept him busy the entire time he was awake in the car. It also kept my other LD's busy for most of the time, but none of them were nearly as creative as my middle LD!

[Side note: Last week we were at Kids Camp. We bought a pack of pipe cleaners while we were there and you should have seen the creations our pre-teens came up with! They made crowns, butterfly wings, wands, necklaces ... ALL kinds of cool things out of them!]

So now that you've heard this AWESOME lazy mom tip, you must, I said absolutely MUST, go get you a bag of pipe cleaners and try it yourself! It's the cheapest form of entertainment EVER ($1.24 for a bag of 100 at Walmart!).

What's Your Score?

This shocked me.  Take the quiz and let us know what you are by leaving a comment.

Tip from LM4

Hello fellow lazy moms... this is LM4....

I've been asked to introduce myself by my dear friend LM1.... but it's late and I'm lazy so that will have to wait! Plus it gives you something exciting (YES exciting!) to look forward to in the next few days (or whenever I get around to it!)

So instead I will start off with a tip.

I recently gave birth to my second adorable baby girl. We'll call her Chicken Little (and her big sister is, of course, Chicken Big.... but we'll get to all that when I actually introduce myself)....

Both of my chickens are still in diapers so when the second one came I had to give a little thought to the diaper bag and this is what I came up with. I went to Wally World and bought pencil bags in several different colors to hold each kids' stuff. That way I can tell quickly which diaper fits who and where the wipes are (believe me, a New Born diaper is NOT meant to hold the poo of a 32 pound toddler.... and yes, it was tested.... but that is also another post for another time!)

So here's a photo of my diaper bag with the little colored pouches... diapers, wipes, change of clothes/burp rag for Chicken Little and hand sanitizer, sunscreen and bug repellent....

New and Exciting Things....

While you all anxiously await my post about the neccessary contents of a "mom purse," I thought I'd let you all in on some of the exciting new things happening around lazy mom!

I know in the past LM2 and I haven't been the best at posting regularly, (please tell me you haven't notice) but all of that is about to change! [This is where you get excited and squeal with glee, just in case you didn't know that.]

Coming soon are some NEW lazy moms on the scene! We have some great lazy moms out there that can definately make our lazy mom site a MUCH better place to be. Now don't worry, LM2 and I will still be posting regularly (did I just hear someone snicker out there? Okay, maybe not "regularly," but at least we'll still be posting). So let me give you a little run down of who will be coming soon....

LM3 - a lazy mom that is sister-in-law to LM2. She is what you would call a "health conscience" lazy mom (if there is such a thing), so we've asked her to please contribute cool lazy mom ways to be more healthful personally and for our LD's. How fun will that be?

LM4 - a lazy mom that has been best friends with LM1 since they were 2 years old. [This is where you all say "Awwwwww".] She has been asked to contribute cool lazy mom ways to live overseas (since she happens to have lived out of the country the past 5 years of her life). Not only will she tell us all the lazy mom things she's had to come up with because she lives overseas, but she'll also touch on how to travel the lazy mom way! So that should be barrels of fun, too!

We've also asked another dear friend to contribute as well, but we are still giving her pep talks to get her to actually take the plunge with us!

Oh! And I almost forgot to mention something that I'm currently working on for our lazy, lazy site. It will be a new feature on lazy mom... "cooking the lazy mom way." I can't wait to tell you all about that, but it will have to be another day! I'm heading out the door in 30 minutes and I desperately need to get off this here computer.

So there you have it! See? We haven't abandoned all of our wonderful readers out there! We have lots of fun new plans in store for lazy mom and we can't wait to get started!

Peace Out~ (oh my gosh. I can't believe I just said that).
